The Art of Self-Reflection.
When I was creating my private practice and reflecting on the core element of my personal healing journey, I realized the pivotal practice was distilled to paying attention to my beleifs, thoughts and choices. Being aware of how each choice led to an outcome and learning what subconscious beliefs steered those thoughts and choices. I would ask myself why I was thinking, feeling, and acting that way. I would watch myself get triggered and then do my best to figure out why...what needs were being met by that emotional reaction and what needs weren't being met by the situation or event that caused the trigger. I would monitor my emotions in situations and around certain people and figure out why I reacted in the way I did.
I would think, journal, talk, walk, read, and then read some more. I was desperate to be "happy" and moreover to figure out why I was unhappy - especially as I seemed to have a life that people around me admired.
So when I reflected on my healing journey I realized that self reflection has been one of the most important take aways these past 30 years.
because the Art part is you deciding what works for you - and that only happens when you are presented with many options...options are a great thing. Back in the 1970's when I was in elementary school I remember starting out with an 8 colour pack of crayons. At the time because I didn't know any better the selection was enough. But with each new grade and passing year the pack expanded to 12 and then 24 and eventually 48 different colour variations.... which sure made colouring more entertaining as I got older.

It doesnt matter what the event was, what matter is that now you are storing these memories and they are causing you problems now. And you have formed beliefs about me as a result. The fix is to unlock the memories and find the beliefs attached. Then look at the behaviours and transform them. Self reflection empowers you by learning how this belief came into being.
